Why POSITANO Hotels So Expensive Amalfi Coast ITALY

POSITANO

AMALFI COAST

ITALY

WHY Are POSITANO HOTELS so EXPENSIVE ??

On Average, Hotels in POSITANO are expensive compared to other places you'd visit in Italy for 2 reasons : The inventory in Positano is limited. There are not many places to stay, especially budget friendly options. The demand to stay in Positano is high !!!

There are not many ways around it, hotels in Positano are "Very Very Expensive"  ... There are a very few instances where you might be able to get a room for less than $200 a night, but these are very rare, and the few rooms that are available at lowere prices are usually booked months in advance and if you go on Booking.comHotels.comExpedia or any hotel websites, all of the cheaper rooms are likely already taken, and you will only find rooms (hotels) for $500 a night and up. Yes, "Saying in Positano is Very EXPENSIVE," and there are not many ways around it if you want to stay in a Hotel right in Positano. Many who just can't afford these insanely high-prices will opt to stay in nearby Sorrento or Salerno, in hotels thaat are much more affordabel and reasonably priced. Then they will take ferry boats or buses to get from Sorrento, Salerno, or Minori, to visit Positano on day trips, from their base in oter towns.

Other who have their hearys set on a stay in a hotel right in Positano, might opt to get a hotel room for just two days in Positano, and stay in a hotel in Sorrento or some place else for the remainder of their time in the area.

I myself used to stay in Positano all the time, back in the day, when Positano was a lot more affordable. I started going to Positano, way back in the Summer of 1985, long before the place becam inandated with way too many tourist, and began demanding price that were prohitive to those on a budget.

These days, I usally  go stay on Capri for a few days, and when I want to be on the coast, I stay in either Salerno, or at the Villa Maria Lemon Farm Agriturismo that I discovered a few years ago."The place is Amazin, and I just Love it." And it's so very affordable.

In 2019 I discovered a wonderful Hotel in Salerno, that I absolutely adore. It's the Hotel Plaza, and is a wonderful place, that has a great location that makes it a perfect place to use a base to stay in and explore the entire area of the Amalfi Coast, whether you want to visit : Positano, Capri, Naples, Ravello, Pompeii, or any of the wonderful spots on the coast, and nearby.

I absolutely adore the Hotel Plaza in Salerno. What agreat find it was. I never expected such a great hotel when I booked it. I was on Booking.com , and it was affordable, and looked like a good place. Well it's much better than good, "the place is Fabulous" !!! This is due inpart to the family who own it, how caring they are, and how wonderfully they run their hotel. And when it comes to the family, I am escpecially speaking of Gaetano, who was kind enough to befriend me, and go out of his way to take care of me, and make sure that I had a wonderful time in his hotel. He suceeded imeasurably.

Besides being a well run hotel, that is super clean, serves a tasty breakfast, is very affordable, and provides impeccable service, the Hotel Plaza has the best location of any hotel in all of Salerno. The Train Station is directly across the street, and the Marine Ferry Terminal where you can catch boats that will take you to Positano, Amalfi, Cetera, and Capri, is just a short 3 block walk from the hotel. No need for a Taxi.

You can get a room for $100 a night or less for two people, with a wonderful breakfast includes. And you can hop on train to explore Naples some day, and in a short 40 minute ride, you in Napoli, the World Capital of Pizza. Catch a ferry boat, and its 30 minutes to Amalfi, and about 50 minutes to Positano. The place is great.

TYPICAL PRICES of POSITANO HOTELS

I checked the prices on a few hotels, and this is what I found.

The POSEIDON HOTEL was almost $1,200 a night. Not long ago, it would have been $350 per night.

Le SIRENUSE is always expensive, at $2,760 a night.

My all-time favorite hotel in all of Positano, the Hotel Casa Albertina, which I say has Luxury for Less in my Amalfi Coast Guide Book, was one of the most affordable at $479 per night.

HOTEL CASA ALBERTINA, Positano

I Love this place. I first stayed there in the Summer of 1986, on my 2nd trip to Positano and the Amalfi Coast. The sons owner Lorenzo befriended me one I showed uo looking for a room. He gave me a special young persons price and introduced me to some of the locals, like the DeMartino's who owned Bar DeMartino (no longer there), in front of Casa Albertina, and Da Vincenzo Ristorante, next to the bar. These three, have long been my favorite places in all of Positano. It makes me quite sad that Bar DeMartino is gone. It was such a cool place. I'd have my Aperitivo there everyday, after coming back from a day at the beach. And I'd hang out there at night, after dinner, which was way cooler than going to Music on The Rocks (local Night Club).

MAMMA AGATA'S FAMOUS LEMON CAKE

RECIPE :

Ingredients :

  • 1  & 1/3 Cups Sugar
  • 2 Sticks Butter (1/2 Pound) Plus An Additional 1.5 Tablespoon To Grease The Pan
  • 4 Large Eggs
  • Grated Zest of 2 Large Lemons, or 4 If Small
  • Pinch of Sea Salt
  • 1  & 1/3 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 4 Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Whole Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Finely Chopped Hazelnuts

LEMONADE MIXTURE FOR TOP:

  • 1 & 1/3 Cups Water
  • Juice of 3 Lemons
  • 8 Tablespoons Sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees Celsius or 320 degrees fahrenheit.
  2. Whip the butter in a mixing bowl on high speed for at least two minutes.
  3. Add the sugar and continue to whip until a soft cream forms.
  4. Add the following to the mixing bowl, one at a time, and blend after each; eggs (one at a time), salt, grated lemon zest.
  5. Alternate adding and blending the flour, baking powder, hazelnuts and milk into the mixing bowl.
  6. Continue to mix the ingredients on medium speed until the texture of the batter has a light and airy consistency (similar to mousse).
  7. (Note: Do not beat the batter for too long after adding the baking powder.)
  8. Coat the surface of the fluted pan with butter before dusting it with flour, then shake off any excess flour before adding the cake batter to the pan.
  9. Pour the batter into your greased and floured pan.
  10. Bake the cake in the pre-heated oven for 45 minutes. While the cake is baking prepare your lemonade mixture by first squeezing the lemons into a pitcher or other container from which you can easily pour the mixture later.
  11. Add the sugar to the lemon juice, and mix until the sugar is fully dissolved in the lemon juice.
  12. Add the water and mix well.
  13. Once the cake has finished baking, let it sit for two hours outside the oven to bring it to room temperature.
  14. Slowly pour a little bit of the lemonade mixture all over the cake in the pan every 10 minutes (three times total) for 39 minutes to allow the cake to absorb the lemonade mixture very slowly.
  15. After the first 30 minutes, tip the cake onto a serving platter and add the remaining lemonade to the top of the cake, distributing it evenly all over the cake.

Tribute Emanuell Vaccarini Gladiator

Emanuele Vaccarini

In NAPOLI

Emanuel made this Great Food Tour of Naples Video

OLD ITALIAN FOOD

Who is Emanuele Vaccarini?

Born in Rome on April 18, 1977, under the zodiac sign of Cancer , Emanuele Vaccarini is a karate and martial arts enthusiast. Son of a former footballer (his father was a goalkeeper), he was pushed onto the football field from an early age , but Emanuele has shown that he has no intention of following in his father's footsteps.

The mother therefore decided to take him to the gym, where the child literally fell in love with karate . After realizing he had a talent, Emanuele continued on his way with great sacrifices, until he became a highly appreciated martial arts and combat sports teacher.

But he's not just a master: in the past he was the bouncer in various clubs in Rome, and today he works on the railways .

As for his love life , we know that Emanuele Vaccarini is engaged to Federica Cignotti , a student of Languages, Cultures, Literature, Translation at the Sapienza University of Rome and the protagonist of one of the past editions of Take me out , the Real Time reality show. On his Instagram profile , Emanuele often posts funny couple videos, much appreciated by the fans.

Emanuele Vaccarini to Avanti another

Given his passion for fighting and for the use of weapons, Emanuele has often been the protagonist of historical reinterpretations - perhaps this is where his character, the Gladiator, was born. A few years ago he participated in a special episode of Avanti un Altro , in the role of competitor. Even though he didn't win, he really enjoyed the atmosphere in the studio.

And when, some time later, he discovered that the editorial team was looking for a gladiator, he didn't think twice about auditioning . Today he is one of the most loved characters in the living room, and who knows that in the future we will not see him in the cinema too. His dream? Making a historical film in which to play… a gladiator!

Emanuele Vaccarini in 4 curiosities

-In 1996 he left as a volunteer together with the Italian Army, on a mission in Yugoslavia .

-He trains 6 days a week, for many hours. But he doesn't just practice martial arts: he dabbles in body building , boxing, fencing and all the sports in which combat is practiced.

-He is an animal lover and has had piranhas and even a 4 and a half meter boa, but he has a weakness: he is arachnophobic , meaning he has a phobia of spiders.

-He loves to travel: one of his last destinations was Thailand .
