For My Day of Swimming at The Famed FARAGLIONI ROCKS
of CAPRI
"This lunch was absolutely wonderful. Better than most anything you could get at a restaurant, I thoroughly enjoyed the perrfectly cooked Eggplant Parmigiano and tasty ARANCINI (Rice Ball), and of course my bottle of local wine, AGliancico di Benevento, My lunch could not have been better."
"I had been swimming the day before at Marina Picolo, and as usual had a most wonderful time down there. As I always do, I caught the little yellow bus by the Small Chapel at Marina Picolo up to the bus stop station in Capri Town just down from Piazza Umberto. There's a woderful little Groceria Salumeria there, the Salumeria Capri. I was a bit hungry so I went in to see what they had. I had already eaten a number of tasty Arancini on this trip already as well as some excelllent Panini so I figured I'd get one or the other. I eyed the Fritatta Croquette, and Arancini at the counter and opted for an Arancini. I also got a bottle of water. I took my arancini and went to the piazetta and sat down on a bench to enjoy the spectacular Sunset View and my Rice Ball. Well they were both Out of This World and I enjoyed them thoroughly."
Yes, the Arancini was so good, that the next day when I was going to swim at Da Luigi Beach Club down by the Fragalioni, I figured I'd get my lunch at the Salumeria befor I made my way down to the beach. I'm glad I did. One of the best lunches I've ever had in my life.

CHIESA SAN MICHELE
I got my Focaccia and decided to walk down the pathway ad checck out the Church of San Michele. I sat down in the Piazza and savored the tasty focaccia. I sat thererelaxing and taking it all in. Then I went inside ad was blown away by what I saw.

A decorative ceramic tile sign points the way to the Chiesa Monumentale di San Michele. Dedicated to Saint Michael, this church was built from 1698 to 1719 and was founded by a nun from Capri named Mother Serafina di Dio. Today the church is home to the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception who look after the preservation and maintenance of this magnificent church. While the façade of the church is a simple, white Baroque design, as soon as you enter and pay the modest fee to visit the church, you’re just steps from seeing one of Capri’s architectural treasures.

The first thing you see entering the nave of the church is the marvelous hand painted ceramic tile floor. Every inch of it is covered with a grand scene showing the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. The dramatic scene takes place in a lush setting surrounded by trees, plants and all types of animals. This wonderfully preserved floor dates from 1761 and was created by Leonardo Chiaiese, one of the best ceramic artists working in Naples in the 18th century.
For an impressive view of the entire floor, climb the spiral staircase to the organ loft and look out over the church from above. The colors of the floor come to life and the scene of Adam and Eve takes on a theatrical setting. The high altar of the Church of San Michele is equally impressive when viewed from above. It features a beautifully engraved marble altar dating from 1719 and an important painting of Saint Michael the Archangel by the Neapolitan artist Nicola Malinconico.
